The building is the first phase of a major new development within the University green belt site, yielding 8,500 m2 of new space for the Faculty of Social Science.

The first phase houses MBA courses, comprising two raked lecture theatres, each seating 70 students, associated seminar rooms, a business centre and common rooms.

The four storey envelope is highly insulated and the high thermal mass of exposed insitu concrete coffers internally combined with night ventilation provides passive cooling. High occupancy spaces are provided with mechanical cooling.

External materials are white render and red facing bricks, with high performance triple glazed windows. Internal materials including glazed stairs, ceramic tile flooring and carpet in public areas, natural birch joinery and door leaves combined with stainless steel trim.
