The site forms part of the larger project for the Spitalfield Market
re-development scheme designed by Swanke, Hayden Connell International
Limited.
The site is located on the Northern edge of overall scheme bounded by
Commercial Street, Elder Street and a proposed public garden, and consists
of 72 dwellings to be administered by three local housing associations.
Included in addition to the housing and car parking, are low rental shops,
a Law Centre and a Fashion Centre, all to serve the local community.
The main priority is to reinstate the existing street frontages to create a
perceivable urban scale mediating between the proposed office development
to the South and the conservation area to the North.
The proposed materials are facing bricks and render for external walls,
with metal windows and balustrades. Roofs are to be metal or tiling.
