The selection of an existing gallery for the development of the Nomura
Gallery acts as a prototype for future upgrading of the galleries within
the listed Grade 1 Tate Building.
The internal finishes have been renewed and include new plywood wall
linings with a high level trunking ring containing conservation monitors,
electrical distribution with capacity for video and data. Likewise, a new
oak strip floor houses discrete outlets for power, data and video. The
soffit is renewed in a fibrous plaster profile and integrates conditioned
air supply and return, fixed and adjustable lighting systems, public
address and sensors.
The control of these systems is discretely housed locally within the
gallery space, with a link to a new central building management system.
The main plant for this and adjoining galleries is housed in an adjacent
space, with future capacity to supply the front quadrant.
Externally, a new independently supported roof structure is placed over the
existing, retained internal roof profiles, to provide support for external
sun blinds and daylight control, ducts and service ways required to upgrade
environmental and conservation conditions within the gallery.
