The programme required a flexible multi-purpose space suitable for a
variety of recreational activities for different age groups including a
large and smaller activity space, workshop, kitchen, storage and office.
The spaces are designed to be used in a variety of combinations by use of
sub-dividing sliding folding screens and continuous perimeter storage
allows for a variety of needs.
The structure consisting of nine tubular steel columns on a square grid
supporting an open box truss steel roof. This roof structure is aligned on
the diagonal to the plan, which allow sub-division of the spaces to
penetrate to the soffit level.
The building components consist of mainly dry construction techniques for
speed of erection, the external cladding being of pre-formed glass
reinforced concrete insulated sandwich panels with exposed steel elements
and doors painted in primary red, green and yellow.
